True Blood: Season 3, Episode 7 “Hitting the Ground” (B)
This show officially went from weird to trippy as it stranded Sookie in a glowing limbo where she was tasked to prevent a bright light just like the one at the center of the island on “Lost.” It’s considerably more far-out than when we used to see Jason and Amy tripping on V, and it’s even more peculiar since Sookie is now out of her coma and likely won’t be able to connect the dots and fill in the blanks any time soon. Though she likely won’t forgive Bill for giving in to his animal impulses and drinking a whole lot of her blood, it ultimately played out quite well, giving him the strength to go on living and to later return the favor to her. This was truly an episode for vengeful anger, as evidenced by the furious shouting done by Sookie, Tara, and Russell. Seeing not one but two vampires meet their final ends, by staking and decapitation, respectively, was more than a little gross, and the implications of the deaths of Lorena and the magister should be felt only peripherally because they were never main characters of the show and will likely only bring in new characters asking questions and seeking retribution for their deaths. This whole notion of the “authority” was pretty interesting, and I’m eager to see how the fairly deranged Russell continues to implement his ideals. Sam went undercover in a truly unconventional way to expose this dog-fighting and free his brother, and I do hope they can wrap this all up soon or at least make his parents compelling villains. I can honestly say that I have absolutely no clue what’s in store for everyone on this show, but I’m definitely confused and intrigued.
