True Blood: Season 3, Episode 8 “Night on the Sun” (B)
After a number of somewhat stalled episodes where things were just getting weirder, events are now starting to move much faster. The sheer amount of deaths in each episode is becoming staggering, and definitely game-changing for the show. I’m speaking mostly about Talbot, whose murder seems to have sent the usually put-together Russell reeling. Eric has now moved on from putting his enormous hands over Stackhouse girls’ entire faces and on to his terribly thoughtless plan of revenge. I can’t imagine things will end well for Eric now that he has betrayed Russell since he doesn’t seem to have any allies anymore, especially since he told Sookie not to trust Bill. Fortunately, it seems like Sookie has decided that she and Bill are okay, and it’s a good thing that she and Alcide did nothing more than harmless flirting. Bill’s solitary moping isn’t overly exciting, so therefore it’s refreshing to see him start training Jessica to defend herself. They also managed to have one of the most sincere conversations of the episode. There was overacting aplenty in this episode, and I have to commend Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica) as the only one who managed to keep herself in check. Lafayette’s relationship drama is proving to be the most interacting non-central plot, and it does seem like there’s another member of Sam’s family coming to help for her and not listening to reason. At least Jason is making some progress with Crystal. In terms of the other plotlines, however, let’s get this show on the road already.
