What I’m Watching: Hung

Hung: Season 2, Episode 5 “A Man, A Plan or Thank You, Jimmy Carter” (B+)

It’s so great to see Damon getting a major promotion when it comes to screen time lately. His poetry is quite entertaining, and it’s a shame that his twin sister doesn’t quite appreciate his talent and instead inspires him to “get sconed” and go nuts. The combination of events going on concurrently proved to be very funny, without Darby telling her mother that Damon was upset because Jessica and Ronnie were fighting naked. It’s good that Ray stuck around to be a father to his very delusional son in his time of need, even though Tanya did seem pretty well-equipped to handle it. Bringing Mike into the loop, though it does mean more Gregg Henry, which is never a bad thing, is a dangerous move since he’s woefully unaware of what the business actually entails and just as direly in need of cash as Ray. Lenore certainly won’t be pleased about that. It could ultimately work well for the show to have someone else (a generally harmless guy at that) peripherally in on the shady business, so we’ll see how it plays out. I loved how Lenore refused to bring her dog near Tanya and insisted on having a separate meeting with Ray. For any Lenore fans out there, it was announced recently that actress Rebecca Creskoff will be guest-starring on an episode of “Desperate Housewives” this fall, which seems like an appropriately excellent use of her talents (though it’s always possible they’ll dumb down her part in the long tradition of cable actresses wasting their considerable abilities on network television).
