What I’m Watching: Burn Notice

Burn Notice: Season 5, Episode 7 “Besieged” (B+)

Leave it to Michael not to blink an eye at the idea of racing headfirst into an armed militia camp. Even better, Fiona is downright excited and more than willing to ride on the undercarriage of a truck to get into the compound. This episode, as usual, multi-tasked and focused on two separate cases, as Jacob annoyed those looking after him and Michael and the gang worked overtime to get Tommy back safely. The sped-up surveillance on Jacob at the start was a nice swift introduction, and I liked the idea of Michael posing as Jacob after the latter did the opposite on camera without knowing it. Michael ensuring the boat would explode, faking Jacob’s death, was clever, but it still doesn’t solve the problem of Michael’s reputation and livelihood being on the line. In regards to this episode’s militia plotline, Michael really doesn’t mind putting himself in harm’s way and going in to ensure that others come out okay. Sam’s categorization of an enemy target as an E.N.I.C. (Extremist Nutbag In Charge) was fun, and I enjoyed Jesse telling Fiona that she should stay because she’s a better shot, rather than because she’s a woman, as she initially thought. I’m glad that John ultimately came to his senses after being turned on by Zachariah and told Michael that he’d need to stay behind to cover their escape. There are few limits to what Michael can accomplish, and it never ceases to be impressive and executed with grace and style.
