True Blood: Season 4, Episode 7 “Cold Grey Light of Dawn” (B+)
After one vampire was hypnotized by Antonia at the end of the last episode, things have suddenly gotten infinitely more serious. Killing the security guard and sending Luis with a message for Bill before having him kill himself was an intense start, and moving to a plan to get all vampires to walk into the sun got deadly frightening real quick. I do have to commend this show for not lagging at all in the execution of this feat, making it happen right away as Antonia recruits an ally in Tara, which finally gives her something productive to do after torching her relationship and getting a death sentence from Pam. On that note, Pam getting caught on camera while she was about to kill Tara was a good way to get out of that situation, and Pam’s attempts to get her face repaired were alternately hilarious and terrifying. Bill ordering the vampires to silver themselves came as a shock, and his pre-spell confession about vampires deserving everything, concluding with his vow to end the cycle of killing after they survive the day, was rather powerful. His fatherly attitude towards Jessica was touching, as was her thanking him for turning her. Planning to eat Antonia starting with her face was an unexpectedly vengeful thought, and I do hope that she survives her near-walk into the sun as Jason runs towards her to save her. In terms of the supporting plotlines, it’s interesting to learn that Lafayette is a medium, and hopefully he can now help figure out what’s going on with Arlene’s baby. Alcide can’t seem to quit this show, connected only in his obvious love for Sookie, and I’m curious to see what role he’ll end up having in all the craziness of this season.
