What I’m Watching: Royal Pains (Summer Finale)

Royal Pains: Season 3, Episode 10 “A Little Art, A Little Science” (B)

I’ll admit that the end of this episode caught me off-guard since I expected something more specifically related to the central characters of the show as a cliffhanger that wouldn’t be resolved until January. I suppose this is more relevant than I initially thought, however, since it’s Divya’s fault entirely that Eric got prescribed steroids since she was working overtime and pulling double duty with her Hamptons Heritage work and her Hank Med responsibilities. Honestly, it’s not entirely her fault, due partially to Evan spelling out the policy that she has to be by her obnoxious patient’s side all the time, and I’m sure Jill is going to catch some flak from Hank as well for not being open and honest with him about hiring Divya. Hank going back to his formal hospital was a big step, and I wish that Constance Zimmer’s therapist Abby had been better utilized since she’s so great on “Entourage.” Basically, in terms of everything related to Hank and Jill, not much has been accomplished this season. Jill is still just on the verge of leaving without going anywhere soon, and Hank doesn’t have any more of a sense of what Hank Med is going to be and what he wants it to be. That’s not the case for Evan, who has gotten much closer with Paige and even managed to surprise the General with his impressive skills handling his many potential supporters. I’m hopeful that the back half of this season proves just as enjoyable and offers a bit more plot motion than we’ve had in these first ten installments.

Season grade so far: B+
Season MVP: Paulo Costanzo as Evan
