The Emmy Awards air this Sunday night on FOX. So far, I’ve predicted 2/4 correctly, missing both Paul McCrane (“Harry’s Law”) and Loretta Devine (“Grey’s Anatomy”) in the drama categories, and correctly guessing Justin Timberlake (“Saturday Night Live”) and Gwyneth Paltrow (“Glee”). I’m as confident as I ever was about all of my predictions, with one major exception, and that’s Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series. I’m particularly worried about the fact that Elisabeth Moss and Julianna Margulies may split the vote, and I think that Kathy Bates is a serious threat to win, if Paul McCrane’s guest actor bid is any indication. It’s not a certainty, by any means, and I’m not changing my official prediction, just putting it out there. Otherwise, I’m still banking on Amy Poehler to win Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and I would be absolutely overjoyed if “Parks & Recreation” took Best Comedy Series. I’m going to be coming back from a wedding tomorrow early evening, so I’m hoping to be able to watch the show in its entirety. Either way, I’ll post some brief reactions either immediately afterwards or the next morning. Enjoy the show, and leave your thoughts in the comments! Well, so far you got all the Comedy acting winners wrong (though I see your reasoning behind your choices, I guess emmy just went another way). I am beyond ecstatic for Ty Burrel and Julie Bowen winning, since they are my favorite TV couple right now (I love me some Dunphys). I knew one of those two awards was going to Modern Family, but I'm so happy both of them win. That's 3 down, 3 to go (or if we want to be ambitious, 3 down, 7 to go, let's not forget the kids).
What a bummer that Steve Carrell didn't win (and never won for playing Michael Scott). I still love Jim Parsons, I love everything about his performance in Big Bang, but I wish Carrell had gotten recognition for his final year, especially with his submitted episode. Oh well, I guess that's that. I also didn't see Melissa McCarthy coming at all. I'm not sure she's at her best in Mike & Molly, but I love her, so I really don't mind (I've loved her since she was Sookie on Gilmore Girls). This is turning out to be an interesting night.
Oh, and good call on Writing and Directing in Comedy. Both really good episodes, so it's great to see the recognition (I guess this all points to a Modern Family win at the end of the night!!!)
This is turning into a night filled with surprises!!! I'm really happy for Kyle Chandler and Margo Martindale (and Peter Dinklage and Julianna Margulies), and even though I'm sad Mad Men hasn't won anything tonight, these are some great winners!!!
After all that, Mad Men still won Outstanding Drama Series!!! What a night!!!
