What I’m Watching: Suits (Season Finale)

Suits: Season 1, Episode 12 “Dog Fight” (B+)

It’s hard to believe that we’re already at the end of the first season of this show, but given just how much of a success it’s been, it’s likely going to be sticking around for quite a while. And this is just what a season finale is supposed to be, wherein Harvey takes on a major case to free someone he himself put away, while Mike’s livelihood lies in the balance thanks to the troubling vengeful actions taken by Trevor upon discovering that his best friend had taken up with his ex-girlfriend. On the case front, it was great to see Chi McBride in a less jolly role than usual as the hard-headed district attorney determined not to let Harvey walk all over him. I liked that Mike asked Trevor to help him and Jessica forced Louis to call in a favor from his cousin to get the DNA results expedited. Most intriguing about this episode was the conversation between Donna and Rachel about the notion of having romances with their respective lawyers. It was especially interesting that Donna said that she had never gone for Harvey because she couldn’t go back and that actually prompted Rachel to tell Mike that she couldn’t go back because of what had already transpired between them. I really hope that Trevor didn’t blow everything by going straight to Jessica, and I have to imagine he made something else up that might result in him working at the firm for a bit next season. Either way, it’s been a great first year, and I’m looking forward to season two.

Season grade: B+
Season MVP: Gabriel Macht as Harvey
