The Good Wife: Season 5, Episode 6 “The Next Day” (B+)
It seems abundantly clear that things are not going back to normal anytime soon. After Alicia and Cary spent so much time planning their exit, it’s only natural that their startup process wouldn’t go too smoothly, and would be full of obstacles. The back-and-forth with Heather’s case files, which started with rats and redactions and ultimately ended with Diane snatching back the case, was considerably more cutthroat and unproductive than expected, and Will’s dark side is really starting to show. Spending his time out of the office in bed with a wild woman and investing the rest of his energy in making sure that Florrick and Agos can’t go anywhere is turning him into someone unrecognizable, but it does make this show extremely interesting to watch. Diane’s devastation at the news that she wasn’t being considered for the judgeship anymore was relatively heartbreaking, and Kurt telling her that he was working on her former case for Alicia didn’t help, but Will agreeing to team up with her to help make sure his new firm stayed on top was a positive development. This show loves its quirky characters, and Melissa George’s pregnant prier is no exception. I liked the incorporation of Gina into an actual storyline following her unnecessary parading around the office via motor-controlled Skype, and it was good to see Cary get back ever so slightly at Kalinda for betraying his trust in last week’s episode. There’s so much happening on this show right now, and it’s only going to get crazier, in a very good way.
