What I’m Watching: The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead: Season 4, Episode 4 “Indifference” (B+)

This was a very strong, focused episode, picking two specific plotlines and choosing to follow them exclusively. Getting away from the prison was probably a wise move because it allowed for a good deal of bonding on the run. Carol and Rick’s conversations were extremely enlightening, and it’s strange to see them in these reversed roles, with Rick questioning the ethical actions of Carol, who equated killing Karen and David because they were infected to Rick shooting Shane. It’s difficult to decide who to side with, but it’s clear that this is not the same Carol who used to exist, instead someone who has been affected enormously by her surroundings. Meeting the fruit-picking couple helped them let their guard down, whether or not they’ll be back again or if they were actually a threat. Tyrese is completely out of control, though it’s Michonne and Darryl’s other companion whose behavior is more worrisome. Michonne and Darryl are without a doubt this show’s most badass characters, and it’s great to see them getting to know each other and discussing the state of things. This episode was full of action, and I’m impressed that, episode after episode, this show still makes zombie chases exciting and suspenseful. I thought that, with all the creeping around inside that occurred in this episode, it would finally be time for the Governor’s return, but it looks like we’ll have to wait on than a bit more. As long as the rest of the show is performing to satisfaction, I suppose there’s no rush.
