What I’m Watching: Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency: Season 2, Episode 8 “Little Guy, Black Hair” (B+)

There’s been so much chaos going on in these two worlds that it came as a pleasant surprise to everyone that Dirk had in fact solved the case and returned to his old peppy overeager self. The opening scene was helpful in showing that, after Marina killed her husband with the pair of scissors, she held hands with her son and with the second boy, who retreated into a dream state and created Wendimoor after sending his father into the tree and his mother into the sky. I’m not sure whether we’ll recognize the boy as someone we’ve encountered before once he’s finally found in Blackwing, or if he’ll be a new face altogether. It was wonderful to see Amanda and Todd bond and reconnect after the initially cold reception Amanda gave him, and they really are a great team, escaping in the truck with Dirk’s new friend and the Rowdy Three in tow. Suzie showing up to cackle and rain on their parade is bad news, especially since the Mage has managed to subdue both Tina and Farah, who were ready to march in and arrest Suzie, in the real world. Hopefully Priest, who just wants to talk to Ken since the idiotic Hugo doesn’t want people to keep telling him to read, can show up in the nick of time to save the day and prove that Blackwing isn’t all bad. Tina did do an impressive job of snapping Bob out of his trance enough to get the information she needed, though they walked straight into a trap that has put them in serious jeopardy.
