What I’m Watching: Easy (Season Premiere)

Easy: Season 2, Episode 1 “Package Thief” (C+)

I had honestly forgotten that this show even existed, and I was shocked to learn that it had been renewed by Netflix for a second season. The streaming service has so many different series, and this anthology comedy didn’t leave much of an impression. I enjoyed a few of the season one episodes but can barely remember anything about them, and the season finale didn’t do anything to cement the show in my memory. Yet somehow it’s back for another round, and my desire to see some of these performers may well compel me to watch the whole thing. This opener was a real dud in terms of impactful storylines, since five of six residents of this neighborhood were so obsessed with catching this package thief and the only one who didn’t want to give it all of her attention was the one who ended up chasing and tackling him, getting all the credit for taking down this menace. I’m a huge fan of Aubrey Plaza, but this is easily the most boring role she’s ever had, not permitted to use her signature deadpan sarcasm to any effect. Joe Lo Truglio and Timothy Simons are both much funnier on their successful comedy series, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Veep,” respectively, and they were fine but unmemorable here. I don’t know if we’re expected to see our familiar characters from season one at all here, but I can’t imagine I’ll really make it all the way through this second batch of eight episodes unless one of them really impresses me.
