What I’m Watching: Dead Pixels

Dead Pixels: Season 2, Episode 4 “Raid Boss” (B+)

There’s a certain point at which Meg actually has to play a part in her own relationship, and making Greg a six-egg breakfast once and then giving him magazines to read while Alison and her boyfriend’s apparently existent children text him was not going to cut it. Alison did accidentally cross a line by getting him to open up about his mother, and it was quite a surprise to see that, just as Meg was getting up to play her part in the big event they waited in line for hours for, she opted to turn off her computer rather than to preempt an emotional moment with her new boyfriend. I can only imagine that someone like her wouldn’t just shut it off like that, but doing so in a “pulling the cord” sort of way was meant to be emphatic and truly meaningful. Usman had a different kind of breakthrough when he pulled his therapist into the game to help out at a crucial time, and Dr. Larry, who earlier had rolled his eyes at the assertion that one of the two of them had suggested playing the game during the session, was able to give Usman some helpful advice while feeding his own newfound addiction to the allure of the game. Nicky was indeed being trolled to an intolerable degree, and he and Daisy are managing to find romance even with pancake taunts being hurled at him incessantly during the game and police officers showing up at his door in real life.
