Dead Pixels: Season 2, Episode 5 “Healthy Balance” (B+)
I do sometimes wonder how it is that Alison tolerates living with two people who do absolutely nothing to help around the apartment and who flat-out say that they wouldn’t ever bother to help her clean unless they literally had nothing else to do, like waiting in a queue for hundreds of minutes for the megapatch. That said, she has her own issues, like waiting for her boyfriend to end his marriage and putting her credit card in the freezer as a deterrent for problematic behavior. I very much enjoyed the awkwardness of the opening scene where Nicky wasn’t quite thorough enough with his check that he was the only one home, which prompted Alison to walk into his room in her towel, which then got stuck and trapped her in there while he started to take his pants off. Watching him heat up a tortilla and use it as a tissue was another highlight of the episode. How Meg gets promoted is a mystery, but I think she’ll be returning to gamer life now following her epiphany-induced, frozen-console-inspired confession of love to Greg, who promptly broke up with her but said it would be fine to stick around and use the wi-fi. I do hope Daisy actually comes to meet Nicky, but we’ll see if that happens. Usman sitting in an internet café next to someone he thought died but then came back to life, only to find out that his other neighbor might have met the same fate, was an entertaining enhancement from his usual blissful disconnection from reality.
