What I’m Watching: Stargirl

Stargirl: Season 2, Episode 2 “Summer School: Chapter Two” (B-)

I’m still wavering on whether to continue watching this show or not, and I’m increasingly torn because there are some worthwhile characters being introduced. I’m not as sure about the Green Lantern’s daughter since she seems to have manifested her powers very, very quickly, and it’s not likely that she’s just meant to remind Courtney of how she felt first discovering her abilities. Courtney, who was determined not to like Jennie’s pancakes that impressed even Yolanda, did seem a bit too excited at the news that there was a supervillain back in town. Jonathan Cake is a terrific actor who I remember from the short-lived “Inconceivable” and his stint on “Desperate Housewives,” and it’s great to see him here as someone who is most assuredly not an antiques collector but rather The Shade, another member of the ISA who manages to be extremely polite in his cover despite having extremely nefarious aims. In a way, Cindy is being set up as the primary antagonist for this season, but she’s also not all that bad, interested in finding a way to deal with her mind-controlled stepmother other than being taken over so that she could be obliterated. There’s also the issue of that beast in the woods, one of several threats that Courtney and Pat, who are going to focus only on the mysterious new man in town, won’t see coming and are going to have to deal with only after the present themselves. I’m debating whether I’ll be around to see it.
