The End: Season 1, Episode 8 “Metastasized” (B+)
There’s a lot going on right now and none of it seems to be great. Philippa reporting Kate and going above Nikos’ head didn’t lead to the revelation I thought it would, but it did, as Kate emphasized, leave Oberon with a permanent mark on his record even if she was able to get the punishment for selling testosterone down to community service. After Oberon and Edie were hurling cruel barbs at each other in the car just a few episodes ago, now Oberon wanted nothing more than to be with his grandmother when he felt that he couldn’t be around his mother for another second even though he was the one who had done something wrong. Edie gave some helpful and relatable motherly advice to her daughter, who is experience her own apparent health issues that Nikos wanted to chalk up to exhaustion but are evidently signs of something much more serious which will surely be investigated after her collapse during the presentation. Edie had some surprising romantic developments of her own after she was able to break away from the unwelcome and forceful advances of Henry, sharing an unexpected connection with Pamela, who has been nothing but wonderful to her. She seemed very bothered, appropriately so, by the fact that what she gave Iris was not used as she had been assured it would be, opening what they’re doing up to potential exposure. It’s not going to be the best time to talk to Kate about it, and it feels like a bad moment for anyone in this family to be under investigation.
