Top Ten New Shows of 2009: #3

My annual TV Awards, the AFT Television Awards, are given out during the summer. But this year, during both the spring and the fall, produced many impressive new television series. As 2009 closes out and 2010 begins, here’s a look back at the best new shows of the year.

#3: Modern Family

This fall’s funniest new comedy has terrific writing and a brilliant ensemble, particularly the hilarious Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara. Each family unit is just as funny as the next, and the episodes in which all three families interact are the best. The “Office”-style interviews with the camera are a terrific bonus. The most exciting part is that the show hasn’t aired a remotely disappointing installment yet.

I'll be catching the first season of this on DVD, when it comes out. I'm curious to see what numbers two and one are, since I haven't heard of any shows better than this one.

I also thought this was going to be your #1 (it's certainly mine, the best new show of the year) but I suppose you found other shows you liked better. I'm curious to see what they are.

Also, I watched the first season four-night marathon of True Blood. It's a really good show, I was surprised (since I've been annoyed by a lot of the recent vampire crap, Twilight and Vampire Diaries and such), but this was a really good one. I'll try and catch up on Season 2 soon (online, since I don't have HBO, I was in a hotel that had it for the holidays).
