SAG Predictions: Best Female Actor in a Drama Series

Last year’s nominees: Claire Danes (Homeland), Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), Jessica Lange (American Horror Story: Coven), Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey), and Kerry Washington (Scandal).

The rundown: Who knows how this will play out since Gunn is officially no longer eligible and the only sure thing to return is Washington. I think that Lange will be back for the latest iteration of her show, and Smith seems to be a permanent contender as well. Danes was recognized last year for a subpar season of the show, and I think that she’ll be back again considering the show has improved in year four. That leaves just one spot to fill, which I think will go to Robin Wright (House of Cards), who won a Golden Globe last year and has been nominated for two Emmys for her performance. Many pundits are predicting Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) to return to the race, but she was left off last year when the show was actually getting good again and I think she missed her chance to stay in the race. Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) is a possibility too, but SAG voters are rarely enthusiastic about new shows.

Current predictions: Danes, Lange, Smith, Washington, Wright
