What I’m Watching: Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy: Season 2, Episode 4 “Eureka” (B+)

The environment in which the Sons of Anarchy operate and travel is really a treacherous, volatile one. The idea that Tig could be headed to a charity function and ends up in the hospital with a busted leg and then gets saddled with a nurse of all people calling his name in to some bounty hunters is pretty harsh and incredible. The determination of several members of the Sons of Anarchy to go rescue one of their own when Clay is so determined to keep their shipment going instead represents a strong bond of loyalty and brotherhood, which is what this show really does best. Seeing the almost endless line of bikers really shows the massive scope of this gang and how far it actually reaches. The line being driven between Clay and Jax is getting very intense, and it’s really headed for a violent outburst soon. Gemma is getting way too close to seeking her own vigilante justice, and her decision to let AJ live after she hears him talking on the phone to his children is clearly a difficult one for her, but it makes for a truly powerful scene. I’m glad that Uncer is taking on a bigger role this season, and the way he interacts with Gemma, Tara, and Ethan is very compelling, and makes him a worthwhile character. He’s clearly in league with the Sons of Anarchy, but he’s out to do the right thing first and foremost. It’s very gratifying to find a show that blurs the line between good and bad so easily and still manages to be fully fascinating.
