What I’m Watching: Royal Pains

Royal Pains: Season 3, Episode 6 “An Apple a Day” (B+)

I’m getting the kind of feeling that I don’t usually get until just before the end of a show’s season, where things are suddenly picking up and definitely about to change. Evan’s proposal to Paige is one thing, though I guess now the fight becomes how they speed up publicizing their engagement. Evan’s photo booth proposal was wonderful, and definitely the highlight thus far of their relationship. It’s clear, however, that Evan wants to grow HankMed into a larger operation, and I wouldn’t mind seeing that, especially as Libby has already volunteered her help as a summer intern of sorts. It was fun to see Julie Benz and Camille Chen as her mothers, and it’s always interesting how these medical shows very often involve untraditional diseases such as the plague or scurvy. The return of Raj, sent as a messenger to demand financial restitution for Divya not marrying him, was somewhat expected, and it’s a shame that Divya doesn’t really know to make it on her own, but she seems to have done just fine by getting a side job from Jill at Hamptons Heritage. Jill’s therapy didn’t seem to be all that interesting since I’m not terribly concerned with whether Hank is considered her boyfriend, but her detective work does deserve commendation. A German voice saying “It’s not her” definitely brings Boris back into the picture, and I’m intrigued to say what becomes of that, and whether Jill chooses to involve Divya or Hank or make a go of it on her own.
