Top 20 New Shows of 2011: #3

My annual TV Awards, the AFT Television Awards, are given out during the summer. But this year, during both the spring and the fall, produced many impressive new television series. As 2011 closes out and 2012 begins, here’s a look back at the best new shows of the year.

#3: Shameless
Despite being miscategorized by awards bodies as a drama, this hilarious hourlong Showtime comedy unites a fabulous ensemble to create one of the strangest and most entertaining television families ever. Emmy Rossum is superb as the de facto matriarch, and the rest of the cast shines as well. It manages to be alternately sweet and depraved, and it’s hard to find a show skilled along the whole spectrum.
