What I’m Watching: Suburgatory

Suburgatory: Season 1, Episode 10 “Driving Miss Dalia” (B+)

Ten episodes in, this show has definitely evolved from the uncertain, somewhat obnoxious premiere just over three months ago. It’s entertaining how Tessa passing her driving test doesn’t mean all that much for her personally, but rather frees up George to spend his own time elsewhere and gives Dalia a reason to try to spend time with her. This definitely ranks as the best use of Dalia, certainly since her helicopter party planning for Tessa’s birthday celebration and probably overall. The introduction of Scott Strauss provides a nice, unexpected opportunity for some rather unfriendly rivalry between Tessa and Dalia, as Tessa realizes that Scott isn’t the gorgeous idiot she thought he was while Dalia swoons over her future boyfriend, not knowing that he only went out with her to spend more time with Tessa. Dalia’s breakdown of the word dumb means that they’re going to war, and that should be entertaining while it lasts, especially with Lisa commenting on the sidelines. George’s troubles with the country club were amusing, and it’s always hard to be a guest then suddenly no longer have the privileges. Both Alan Tudyk and Chris Parnell proved quite funny as they dryly refused to admit whether or not they’d actually be helping him. George’s physical skirmish with Noah led to a very fitting resolution for the whole issue, where George was officially a member of Noah’s family since they were like brothers, which led him to finally discover who it was who had help up his application.
