The Good Wife: Season 3, Episode 12 “Alienation of Affection” (B+)
This episode was a whole lot of fun because it provided a spotlight on one of the more underused characters on this show, David Lee. I remember Zach Grenier as Edward Norton’s boss in “Fight Club” and as the slippery fixer for David Palmer in the first season of “24,” and his character here is even seedier and more despicable than those two roles. His feuds with Julius and a childish Eli were highly amusing, and it made for a great comedic backdrop to an otherwise decently serious hour. Alicia doubting herself about the waiver was an unusual introspection for someone whose many problems are unrelated to her professional competence, and seeing Cary take the high road for a change was nice. Diane’s nervous romance with the process server played by Bryan Brown was a lot of fun, and I also enjoyed F. Murray Abraham’s appearance as the moody California-based lawyer. Will’s lawyers were not too impressive, and I’m so glad that Alicia suggested the wacky Elsbeth Tascioni, played by the wonderful Carrie Preston from “True Blood.” Leaking Wendy’s witch hunt to the judges was a brilliant play, though unfortunately it seems to have angered Wendy enough to make the first move and indict Will, which is sure to take center stage and cause a whole new slew of problems for the already shaky relationships among the higher-ups at Lockhart-Gardner. Wendy, Cara, and Dana make a pretty fierce team that even Alicia, Eli and Kalinda should considerable formidable.
