What I’m Watching: Parks & Recreation

Parks & Recreation: Season 4, Episode 11 “The Comeback Kid” (B+)

Leslie’s campaign is certainly not going to be a conventional one, though I’m not sure I’d expect anything else from the bubby blonde who gets so incredibly excited about anything having to do with government. It’s quite a team she has behind her, all contributing in whatever ways they are best suited, and all falling short to create an obviously homegrown and hopefully endearing campaign rally. I enjoyed how the banner only had part of Leslie’s face and two letters from her name, the red carpet only extended halfway to the stage, and the stage itself was tiny because they could only transport so much wood. Ron’s attempted defense upon being pulled over was well-intentioned but entirely faulty, and Tom’s red carpeted everything was quite amusing. Fortunately, Pistol Pete, usually seen as neighbor Bob on “Desperate Housewives,” was able to come through and offer his support before slipping on the ice and ending up in the hospital. Ann’s stint as Leslie’s campaign manager actually went better than might have been expected, but it’s good that Ben will be taking over, especially since his three-second Claymation project isn’t really the kind of activity that lets him access his full potential. It’s nice that Chris cared enough to stop by to try to pull him out of his depression, especially since their friendship has always been one of the strongest and most affirming elements of the show. Now that Ben is back in a good frame of mind, I imagine there’s little that he and Leslie can’t accomplish together.
