What I’m Watching: Resident Alien

Resident Alien: Season 2, Episode 12 “The Alien Within” (B+)

I wasn’t sure what was going on when we saw a lonely alien Harry wandering a devastated earth sixty years in the future since it seemed like that couldn’t possibly be the future of this series, especially with a third season fortunately on the way. But those flashes, which kept getting further and further into the future as Harry expressed his misery at becoming more human than he wanted, had a tremendous payoff, which is that he found a portal that allowed him to go back in time and become Goliath so that he could help his younger self prevent that future from ever existing. I’m excited by that discovery, though the fact that Goliath died means that it won’t be easy. It would be helpful, however, if the people who abducted the baby alien realized that he and Harry could be allies rather than enemies, but I doubt that the lines of communication will open anytime soon. After Sahar turned the tables on the “adult-napping,” Harry went to comfort her, which was quite a development, much more intimate than when he had coached D’Arcy to believe that she could still ski despite her knee injury. Ben’s presentation went very poorly, and he is not going to be happy that all of Kate’s friends convinced her that Patience should be preserved as is and not turned into the metropolis Ben wants with the resort coming. Liv takes a lot from Mike, but finding out that he wants to leave Patience to go back to DC where murders are so much more prevalent is going to seriously hurt their relationship.
