The L Word: Generation Q: Season 3, Episode 6 “Questions for the Universe” (B)
I noticed that this episode didn’t start with an L but then saw that, appropriately so, Q is another frequent title-starting letter for this show now. The big surprise of this hour, however, wasn’t its title but its format. I certainly was not expecting a musical episode for this series, though it was fun and allowed us to see certain talents from its performers. What was strange about it aside from just its structure was that it sort of promoted Sophie to a lead as Bette is now entirely absent following her grand gesture to Tina and Dani’s role has been diminished in the wake of Gigi’s equally sudden departure. More than that, Sophie imagining herself as the silent housewife to Finley’s attention-hogging husband inspired her to go break things off right away, which means that her relationship is now done and it doesn’t matter that her now ex-partner is still around. I’m so curious who it was that Alice texted when she realized who the right person was, and I hope that it ends up working out. I had no idea we were going to see Erin Daniels back as Dana, who I still attest was one of the best characters on the original show and who presented herself very differently here since it’s been a good sixteen years since her character died. Shane’s future with Tess remains uncertain since she just charged in there with all the right intentions only to learn that Tess’ mom had died, an unfortunate event that’s sure to shake Tess but which also means she’ll have a renewed focus on her relationship with Shane, if she chooses to pursue it.
