Emmy Winner Predictions: Best Directing in a Comedy Series

Nominees are pictured and listed in alphabetical order.

Entourage, “Tree Trippers” (Julian Farino)
Flight of the Conchords, “The Tough Brets” (James Bobin)
The Office, “Stress Relief” (Jeff Blitz)
30 Rock, “Apollo, Apollo” (Millicent Shelton)
30 Rock, “Generalissimo” (Todd Holland)
30 Rock, “Reunion” (Beth McCarthy)

This marks the first time since 2003 that a new series pilot won’t be taking home this prize since there’s no new show even nominated. That also means that none of these shows have ever won because they haven’t even been on that long. If 30 Rock can manage a win out of its three nominations, it will likely be for “Generalissimo,” since Todd Holland is a three-time winner in this category (for “Malcolm in the Middle” and “The Larry Sanders Show”). The episode of Entourage was pretty stupid, and it’s far inferior to previous nominations the show has earned. My bet would be that either The Office finally takes home a trophy for its hour-long post-Superbowl episode, or the offbeat Flight of the Conchords wins the only category where it has a legitimate shot. I’ll take a leap of faith here and predict the latter.

Who should win: “The Tough Brets”
Who will win: “The Tough Brets”
