What I’m Watching: Californication

Californication: Season 6, Episode 3 “Dead Rock Stars” (B+)

This show is just crazy. It’s surprising that Gabriel was the one to suggest that Faith leave rehab to attend her dead rocker’s funeral and that Hank be the one to accompany her. I wonder how he’ll feel about it when he finds out exactly what became of Hank’s night. The funeral was one-of-a-kind and truly memorable, from Hank’s helpful tryst with the widow to some intense cat-fighting to the holographic announcement and performance by the dead rockstar. Atticus Fetch being at the funeral made everything up to this point make sense too, and I like that he confronted Hank about not liking his music. It’s a shame that, on her first day of work, Karen had to show up not only to Atticus parading around naked, but also to the sight of a passed-out Hank on the floor. He really is inescapable for her, and she’d really like a bit of distance to get her life started again. Hank and Faith still haven’t gotten together, which bodes well for the eternally-possible reunion of Hank and Karen, and I suspect that they will keep in touch after rehab is over, though it may not be in a sexual manner. Charlie’s trip down the rabbit hole is not going to be a fun one, since he’s likely to say and do just about whatever he needs to maintain his cover with Robbie Mac and with his angry boss. Paying off his Grindr date to keep his secret is just the tip of the iceberg, and Charlie is definitely in way over his bald head.
