What I’m Watching: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Season 4, Episode 12 “Hot Potato Soup” (B)

This episode was confusing because it went back and forth about Holden’s guilt in everything and whether he’s actually evil. He just wants control and doesn’t care who gets hurt, but his new allies, namely Senator Nadeer and her superior, seem to have far more nefarious plans, which apparently start with going after Coulson, the man who was dead and now is very much alive. I’m not sure how all this gets sorted out since there could be any number of robot replicas of Holden, Aida, or May out there in the world. I enjoyed seeing a different double much more in the form of Patton Oswalt’s Koenig brothers. I’m a huge fan of Oswalt’s and I think he’s perfect for these roles. I wasn’t sure who the actor playing the superior was, but as soon as I saw Zach McGowan’s name, I knew that I had seen him before. I would never have connected this part with sex-addicted husband Jody on “Shameless,” but it is indeed the same man. As the superior targets Coulson with Holden, we’re going to have to hope that Holden can continue to convince Aida to keep the real May alive so that they can find her, though the replacement may have to do for the time being, a notion that is extremely disconcerting for the agents already very weary of robots who aren’t necessarily in control of what they want to do, particularly if she thinks that she is and should be the real May.
