Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best TV Series – Comedy/Musical

The competition:
Barry aired its second season on HBO. Stars Bill Hader and Henry Winkler are nominated for their performances. Hader won his second consecutive Emmy this past year, and contends at the SAG Awards along with the show’s ensemble.

Fleabag aired its second season on Amazon. Its first season received no Globe nominations back in in 2016. Stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott are nominated for their performances. Waller-Bridge took home an Emmy this past year, where the show also won Best Comedy Series.

The Kominsky Method aired its second season on Netflix. Stars Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin are nominated for their performances, and contend for SAG Awards both individually and as part of their ensemble for the second year in a row. This show won this prize last year, and Douglas also took home a Globe.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel aired its third season on Amazon. It won this award two years ago as well as the Emmy that year for Best Comedy Series. Two-time champion Rachel Brosnahan is nominated for her performance, and she contends along with Alex Borstein, Tony Shalhoub, and the ensemble at the SAG Awards.

The Politician aired its first season on Netflix. Star Ben Platt is nominated for his performance.

Additional notes: This award usually goes to a freshman series. One nominee from last year, “The Good Place,” was eligible but not nominated. For the second time in history, no broadcast network comedy is represented.
Who should win? I’m only halfway through the most recent seasons of “The Kominsky Method” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” but both are superb. I like this list a lot. At this point, I’d choice “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” or “Fleabag.”
Who will win? Though “The Politician” is the kind of show that would typically win this prize, I think it’s unwise to bet against Fleabag as I did at the Emmys.
