What I’m Watching: The L Word: Generation Q

The L Word: Generation Q: Season 2, Episode 2 “Lean on Me” (B+)

The network of characters on this show are so interconnected that it’s hard to avoid any awkwardness, like Sophie and Finley ending up at the same poker game just hours after Finley had to quit her job so that it wouldn’t create constant tension in the workplace. I guess that is the root of this show, which was the chart that linked everyone together because of who had hooked up with who. That’s a bit more complicated these days, but there are also relationships that are developing which appear to be non-romantic and could easily turn into something else, like Shane and Tess, who will make great business partners and are doing a good amount of what could very well be called flirting. Nat confessing to Alice that she might need to be polyamorous did not go over well, and in all of the tableside banter that happened at the poker game, Alice seemed to forget that she too was guilty of cheating with the namesake of the bar they were in, back when Dana was engaged to Tonya. It’s good that Bette is able to provide a source of comfort and advice for Dani, and that she’s pushing for her to reconcile with Sophie rather than walk away. Bette’s new job is going to be an uphill battle, but she’s clearly a good fit for the role. Micah made his feelings for José quite clear, and while that’s certainly not the end of that relationship, it’s going to be hard for them to get back to a good place. I’m not sure I would have expected to see Donald Faison from “Scrubs” on this show, but his interactions with Alice have already been very entertaining.
