Ted Lasso: Season 2, Episode 5 “Rainbow” (B+)
I was very fortunate to get to speak with actor Nick Mohammed, who plays Nate, shortly after watching this episode, and what a treat that was. We talked about how his newfound confidence has led to some aggression on his part and how he’s enjoyed the transformation of his character. It was fun to see him come to Keeley to ask her to make him famous only to have her march him straight into Rebecca’s office so that she could train him on being powerful. Her standing on her toes and essentially roaring was a fantastic little moment, and it was great to see Nate employ his own version of that at the restaurant, resulting in him getting the table he wanted and an immediate romantic rejection from the hostess, which he took pretty well. Ted knew that he didn’t want to go through Sharon to help Isaac, and though he didn’t have a plan, enlisting a reluctant Roy to show Isaac the part of the game that he had been missing proved to be exactly what he needed. It was also a lot of fun to see Roy act out a typical romantic comedy and come to Ted during the game to agree to be a coach. I’m intrigued at the idea that Ted is the one texting Rebecca, though it’s hard to know if that’s genuine and if she’ll be upset given that he’s not being honest with her. I also liked the incredible confusion caused by Beard’s completely emotionless explanation of the Sheffield Wednesday club that Richmond was playing on Saturday.
