The Good Wife: Season 6, Episode 21 “Don’t Fail” (B-)
I’m never too fond of episodes that take place partially or fully in the past since it doesn’t allow for much present development, and in this case it harked back to a very different time, one where Alicia and Kalinda were good friends just getting to know each other and Alicia and Cary were bitter enemies, something that wasn’t conveyed too effectively since their personalities have changed so much on the show now. Bringing up one of Alicia’s old cases in a very sensational manner – he’s essentially being tried for the same crime because his victim is in a different state, dead not in a coma – gave her something to do and feel good about it, and showed her that she does have a passion for helping people that sitting around and writing a memoir won’t much help. I was extremely excited to see guest star Aya Cash, who I’m extremely fond of in her FX – now FXX – show “You’re the Worst,” and who I enjoyed in her role as young lawyer Amber Audrey who was more adept at asking Alicia for a photo than in actually getting out an argument. I can’t understand how Alicia has the drive to start another firm when she just started one so recently, but I guess that’s how it works in this imagined universe. Seeing Kalinda in flashbacks was a tease, and I doubt we’ll get much resolution in the season finale, which could go any number of directions given the plethora of characters we haven’t seen in a while.
