What I’m Watching: The Red Road

The Red Road: Season 2, Episode 5 “The Hatching” (B+)

I had no idea that this show was returning for just six episodes in its second season – I had that, like sister show “Rectify,” it would have its order upped from six to ten, but, alas, that’s not the case, and just as this show is getting really good, it’s almost over, though hopefully it will be back for a third season and beyond. An eerie beginning with an update on where everyone is now, particularly Junior walking into the mansion and Jean having some worrisome recollections and visions, led into a pretty intense hour that ended in an action-packed place. What I actually like most about the show is the relationship between Philip and Harold, as the convict went to the police captain begging him to go to Connecticut to save Junior and then ended up breaking his parole when Jean came into his house at night to demand his good-natured help. Harold telling Philip that no one can die period was particularly entertaining, but that went from fun to serious in a second as they overheard the fatal shot that executed the man Junior had let go only moments earlier. Junior’s revenge attempt didn’t go too well, and now he’s in a dangerous spot in unfamiliar territory. Harold really raised the alarm when it comes to the town’s water supply, and I think he’s going to end up doing more damage by bringing it to light than anything else. I’m not sure what to make of Jean’s confirmation that the grate does exist since everything she does still seems laced with a frantic attitude.
