The Good Place: Season 2, Episode 4 “Team Cockroach” (B+)
I suppose it would have been too easy for this foursome just to agree to go along with Michael’s plan since he did just reveal to them that he’s been lying to them and was planning to torture them for eternity. What’s good is that, even if we don’t get to see much of our fantastic foursome – which has now really become a group of six if you count Michael and Janet – experiencing the new version of the fake good place, they still get to be featured while they’re bickering about what to do. Eleanor is absolutely in charge, and giving Jason something shiny to distract him and telling Tahani not to talk for one hundred hours shows that she’s not a particularly nice person and she wants to be able to think without distraction. She was right to call Chidi out on not being able to pick out clothes without analyzing the decision but being perfectly on board with trusting Michael, but he’s even more right that this is their best shot. Michael didn’t gloat as much as he could have when he finally showed Tahani how she died, and it seems like she’s on board with the idea of trying to atone and become a truly better person. I like the brief bit of the Vicki-run good place, which is just like the first one we know so well, and it appears that Vicki herself is the star, so our friends don’t have to worry about doing all that much while they learn how to be good people. I’m excited to see where things go now that the ball is really rolling.
