What I’m Watching: The L Word: Generation Q

The L Word: Generation Q: Season 2, Episode 4 “Lake House” (B+)

One thing that seems very true about this show just as it was with the original is that nothing is final, and that there’s always a chance a seemingly dead romance may once again be revived. Characters can also change and pursue new ideas that they hadn’t previously considered, but let’s start with the first one. Sophie driving out to see Dani and checking on her resulted in an icy reception, but Dani quickly warmed to the idea of seeing her again, and even moved past the fact that she had been on the phone with Finley canceling plans because she didn’t know what their status was to suggest that she should stay and they should essentially give it another try. Bette and Gigi seem fine after a steely interaction in the previous episode and a potential romance between Gigi and Dani, which got interrupted by the sudden arrest of Dani’s father. Bette found the artist she so wanted to represent and got an offer to go home with her, but she was able to separate business and pleasure. That’s not working so well for Shane and Tess, which was inevitable, and it was also nice to see Shane be there for Angie when she needed some advice from an adult who’s not exactly an adult. Alice is spiraling after her breakup, and having to spend a lot more time with her live-in mom isn’t going to help matters. Micah managed to say that he might be interested in women but hasn’t yet been able to tell Maribel that she’s the one he’s interested in, a reality of which she’s blissfully unaware considering how much she’s trying to set him up with someone else.
