What I’m Watching: Shrinking (Season Finale)

Shrinking: Season 1, Episode 10 “Closure” (B+)

I’m very glad to know this show is returning for another season, even if that renewal took much longer than expected considering the people behind this show and Apple TV+ picking up “Ted Lasso” less than a week after it debuted. It was nice to celebrate a wedding in this episode that had some bumps leading up to it but ultimately went off quite wonderfully, especially with the revelation that Tia was the one who introduced Brian and Charlie. Alice was spiraling out remembering good times with her mom, and it’s good to see that everyone appears to have reached a good place. Paul telling his grandson about his Parkinson’s and his “sexual relations” was an entertaining moment, and I also liked that he reluctantly gave Jimmy a hug before being guilted by Liz into showing up for Gaby at her job interview. Sean was kind enough to invite a desperate Liz to join him in being involved in company decisions, and the ever-astute, rock-giving and rarely subtle Liz also noticed that Gaby was looking at Jimmy in a way that indicated that he was hardly the safe option that she professed him to be. Brian’s dad even stood up there with him as his best man while Derek got to be an usher and was overwhelmed that Brian knew his name. If only things were going to stay tranquil for a while, but Grace has all but assured that won’t be the case given her all-too-literal application of Jimmy’s advice that will definitely get him into serious trouble. I can’t wait for season two, and let’s give this show lots of Emmy love!

Season grade: A-
Season MVP: Harrison Ford as Paul and Jessica Williams as Gaby
