What I’m Watching: Grace and Frankie

Grace and Frankie: Season 2, Episode 4 “The Road Trip” (B+)

With Robert home from the hospital, things are returning to some sense of normal, but that doesn’t mean that they’re calm or without their own sense of craziness. Sol’s inability to spend time alone with Robert for fear of ruining the relationship completely with his confession about his indiscretion with Frankie was really paralyzing him, and there’s no way that can go on for too long. Bud, Coyote, and Brianna all had humorous reactions to Sol’s trouble functioning, and I liked Brianna’s harsh motivational response coupled with her attempt to make the fancy chair seem like a great idea. Robert’s constant pushing of the boundaries in terms of what he can eat and drink didn’t help matters too much, but they did provide a good distraction to get Sol upset. Frankie definitely crossed a line looking up Grace’s onetime fling, and that didn’t end up turning out too well. I suppose it’s not too surprising that Frankie isn’t one for highway driving and was ready to take side streets for three hours rather than go an hour with traffic, and the reason for that was exemplified by Frankie freezing when she was supposed to merge on the freeway until Grace hit the gas for her. I smiled when I saw Sam Elliott was the actor cast as Phil since he played a similar part in last year’s film “Grandma” opposite none other than Lily Tomlin. We’ll see if he continues to be a part of the plot, but this was certainly a sobering experience for Grace.
