The Good Place: Season 2, Episode 2 “Dance Dance Resolution” (B+)
Well, this was one way to handle things. It’s puzzling to me that Michael can keep going and going with his hundreds of attempts to make the humans miserable and somehow he’s the only one who can communicate with Sean, but this was a dizzying, hilarious manner of going through the numerous iterations which all ended up with them figuring out that it was the bad place, including one time that even Jason managed to put it together. It was fun to see the different variations of irritating put there exclusively to mess with Eleanor, including the fountain that much more pleased Chidi. The notion that everyone who works for the bad place and is part of this experimental version is revolting against Michael is crazy because it adds to the dimension of whether this torture really is worth it, especially since Michael seems to be tormented than any of them, going through more than eight hundred attempts. Eleanor and Chidi’s train trip showed that they are meant to be together despite what they think and the fact that Michael only made them soulmates because he knew how bad a fit they would be, and now that they’re going to retain their memories, things may well be headed in that direction again. I love Janet’s role in all this and how she constantly pleads with Michael not to reboot her, which he might be smart not to do since she’s always one who helps the foursome realize that things are not as they seem. I thought they might succeed by playing along and pretending they were happy, but Michael trying to make a deal with them so that they could appear to be miserable even though they aren’t is a much more enticing new direction.
