What I’m Watching: The Flash

The Flash: Season 6, Episode 13 “Grodd Friended Me” (B-)

Whenever I see Grodd’s name mentioned in an episode title, I’m not all that excited, and I also think that this was a missed opportunity to bring back Violett Beane, now starring on “God Friended Me,” as Jesse, for just one brief appearance. That said, I’m not entirely sure if she’s supposed to exist anymore given that the Harrison Wells we first met, who was actually Eobard Thawne, never had any children. The team does seem rather fractured, with Iris literally trapped in a mirror dimension with someone she believes is working hard to get her out of there but instead is actively plotting against her, Ralph in search of his new frenemy, and Cisco absent for quite a while now. In a sense, it’s like “Legends of Tomorrow,” where the supporting team could constantly rotate, as Kamilla and Chester are now taking over running point on missions and Allegra is bonding and fighting with the version of Wells we have left, who isn’t doing all that well as other versions of himself keep appearing and yelling at him. Grodd being featured wasn’t all that bad, but I don’t think it added anything, other than to atone for some of the snap judgments made by the team on the irreparable attitudes of some of the villains they’ve fought and locked up. Now that Barry can focus, it’s time for Joe to come to his son-in-law and realize that the overly pushy reporter doesn’t resemble the strong-willed but kindhearted Iris, and that they have to figure out where she really is.
