Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie

The competition: Martin Freeman’s desperate salesman (Fargo), Woody Harrelson’s carefree cop (True Detective), Matthew McConaughey’s harrowed cop (True Detective), Mark Ruffalo’s gay writer (The Normal Heart), and Billy Bob Thornton’s devious troublemaker (Fargo).

For your information: This year, there are only three projects contending, with two actors apiece from the two “limited series” and one from the TV movie. Harrelson was nominated in this category two years ago for “Game Change,” and McConaughey won the film award for Best Actor last year. Ruffalo is also nominated this year for his film performance in “Foxcatcher.” This is Thornton’s fifth career Globe nomination but his first time contending for a TV movie. All three projects are recognized in the top category as well, and this should prove to be a competitive year here.

Who should win? I haven’t seen Ruffalo, but I would vote enthusiastically for Freeman with the knowledge that any of them deserve it.

Who will win? I think McConaughey takes this.
