What I’m Watching: Little Voice

Little Voice: Season 1, Episode 8 “Sea Change” (B+)

This show doesn’t always provide resolution to the issues facing its characters, and this episode veered towards the miserable end of the spectrum in that literally no one got a happy ending with just one installment left before this show ends, possibly for good. Bess didn’t find her father, and instead ended up getting a visit from someone she did not expect to see and wasn’t at all happy had decided that this was the time to pop back into her life and that of her brother. Louie was thrilled that her mother showed up, and she knew that Bess was the one she was going to have to suck up to and prove that she had been able to heal but not necessarily to change. In all this, Bess snapped at Benny, drank on the job, and chewed Ethan out for coming to the bar and telling her that he was ready to be with her now after putting off a possible relationship previously because he was with someone else. Samuel, who had graciously offered to come look for her father with her, was staring at her so intently the entire time, but he’s aware that she’s probably not going to want to invite him into her life right now even if they’re a good fit for each other. Prisha’s excitement at being able to pretend to be in a heterosexual relationship was not shared by Ananya, and it’s going to be difficult to overcome that misstep and find a way to move forward together.
