Home Economics: Season 2, Episode 10 “Men's Water-Resistant Watch, $289” (B+)
I had almost forgotten all about Sofia and how much trouble her style of working with Tom had nearly caused him, and I guess it’s fitting that she would just toss him aside after her entire story was revealed to be a lie and go with Michael Chabon after all. Her defense that there was a shack on the grounds of the lavish estate she grew up on was hardly compelling, and I enjoyed the rollercoaster it sent Tom and Marina on as they frantically stress-cleaned their home while trying to determine if they were okay lying. Debating pros and cons with socks was also fun, as was Marina’s determination that Sofia’s untruths meant that she was also a murderer. I love that Amanda, who was the one who convinced Tom to write her book in the first place, couldn’t remember anything about the book he was already writing and told him to focus on that. While Marina goes back to work, which should be a worthwhile storyline, Tom’s going to have a bit of trouble keeping the latest secret he’s not supposed to tell anyone, which is likely to cause serious problems for the newest couple in the family. Connor and Jojo trying to keep their romance secret led to a very humorous setup attempt on Denise’s part, and it was entertaining seeing how Jojo responded when she was jealous and how Connor tried to deal with that given that he was legitimately interested in a relationship with her.
