What I’m Watching: Search Party

Search Party: Season 5, Episode 5 “Acts of the Apostles” (B+)

I’m glad that Elliott and Marc are finally realizing just how creepy their kid is, but naturally the “return process” wouldn’t be so easy, using great guest star get John Waters to superb effect. I love that Elliott had to have intense prosthetic makeup applied so that he could pose as Dr. Carpet, who apparently might have had a wild night with Dr. Balthazar and then had to show the interns how to sacrifice rats, which he did in a truly horrific way. His discovery may not have been good for getting rid of his horror child, but it was important given that, as expected, Tunnel isn’t actually close to creating a pill that can offer enlightenment. Dory was right to be upset that they were just jelly beans, but that did lead to another frightening flash of how Dory was legitimately scared of what was going to happen to humanity if they didn’t reach that point first. Portia and Drew just need to be honest with each other about their affection for Dory since they could be a productive thruple, which will likely just revert back to Portia and Drew once Dory decides that they’re not serious enough about what they’re doing. Getting sliced by someone who was very upset about her ruining her life was a jarring opening, but it’s not quite as concerning as the fact that her acolytes decided that they needed to show their loyalty and become their colors. I’m not sure exactly what that entails, but Dory’s friends aren’t going to be happy with the level of commitments her new followers are showing.
