Emmy Race Update: Candice Bergen
According to the Emmy forums over at Goldderby, Candice Bergen has taken herself out of the race for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on "Boston Legal". This kind of thing has happened in the past with actors like John Laroquette, after a record-breaking four consecutive wins for "Night Court", and I believe John Goodman after a frustrating seven-time losing streak for "Roseanne". As far as Bergen is concerned, I am torn between a "who cares" attitude and a feeling of joy that Bergen's spot can now go to someone far more deserving. To replace Bergen on my top 15 contenders list, I choose Lorraine Bracco from "The Sopranos". Even though she submitted "The Second Coming", which is nothing to write home about, her work in "The Blue Comet" (which aired after the original May 31 cutoff date) is really superb and could get Bracco a nomination if voters want to reward the show.
