AFT Awards: Best Directing for a Comedy Series

This is the fifteenth category of the 7th Annual AFT Television Awards, my personal choices for the best in television during the 2012-2013 seasons. Finalists and semi-finalists are included to recognize more of the impressive work done on television today. Nominees are pictured in the order I’ve ranked them.

Best Directing for a Comedy Series

Last year’s nominees: Palestinian Chicken (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Not Good Enough Mothers (Enlightened), She Did (Girls), The Mayan Apocalypse (House of Lies), See Ya (New Girl)

Emmy nominees: On All Fours (Girls), Diva (Glee), New Year’s Eve (Louie), Arrested (Modern Family), Hogcock/Last Lunch (30 Rock)

Semi-finalists: Halloween Surprise (Parks and Recreation), Patridge (Parks and Recreation)

Finalists: Finale (The Office), It's a Shame About Ray (Girls), Soda Tax (Parks and Recreation), Cooler (New Girl), Questions (Wilfred)

The nominees:

The Ghost is Seen (Enlightened)
Revenge Play (Enlightened)
Episode 7 (Episodes)
Survival of the Fittest (Shameless)

While it might be possible to be classify both episodes of HBO’s individualistic series as a drama, it’s indisputable that they were extremely effectively made. The two installments of Showtime’s comedies were standouts from among great seasons of both shows.

The winner:

D.C. (Veep) reshaped its focus with an energetic, triumphant, and wholly entertaining season finale.
