AFT Awards: Best Writing for a Comedy Series

This is the sixteenth category of the 7th Annual AFT Television Awards, my personal choices for the best in television during the 2012-2013 seasons. Finalists and semi-finalists are included to recognize more of the impressive work done on television today. Nominees are pictured in the order I’ve ranked them.

Best Writing for a Comedy Series

Last year’s nominees: Hard Being Easy (Girls), Pilot (Girls), Pilot (House of Lies), Win, Lose, or Draw (Parks and Recreation), Nicknames (Veep)

Emmy nominees: Episode 209 (Episodes), Daddy’s Girlfriend, Part 1 (Louie), Finale (The Office), Hogcock (30 Rock), Last Lunch (30 Rock)

Semi-finalists: Cooler (New Girl), The Ghost is Seen (Enlightened), Leslie and Ben (Parks and Recreation)

Finalists: D.C. (Veep), Partridge (Parks and Recreation), Women in Garbage (Parks and Recreation), In the Clouds (Californication), Revenge Play (Enlightened)

The nominees:

Finale (The Office)
It's a Shame About Ray (Girls)
Governor Dunston (30 Rock)
Cascading Failures (Shameless)

This quartet of very funny episodes put the spotlight on their characters and delved into clever, hilarious concepts with great success.

The winner:

Quick Hardening Caulk (New Girl) was a brilliant piece of comedic construction, taking double entendres to an extreme and pulling it off marvelously.
