What I’m Watching: Ray Donovan

Ray Donovan: Season 1, Episode 11 “Bucky Fuckin’ Dent” (B+)

This was a very insular hour since most of it involved the Donovan brothers handling a worrisome crisis, with various guest appearances from the ladies in their lives. It’s interesting to note that, out of all the brothers, it was Bunchy who most wanted to take the priest to the hospital, while Terry was hung up on the implications of letting a priest die. The most important, and startling, revelation, is that Ray too was molested by the priest, which resulted in him putting a bullet in the priest’s head. That kind of violence is still shocking even for Ray, especially with his brothers present at the scene of such a point-blank murder. Abby’s visit to the gym was quite intriguing because she seemed content to let it happen and leave the priest to his fate, while Frances expressed a much less forgiving attitude. Let’s hope that she doesn’t find out that Terry and his brothers didn’t bring the priest to the hospital, since it seems like that relationship is just getting back on track. As if his day wasn’t bad enough, Frank incorrectly assuming that Ray was the one who shot Van is about the worst thing to happen to him, since it means he’s lost an ally and gained a bitter enemy. With no sign of Sully but his threat still looming, the season finale promises to be enthralling. Mickey has managed to worm his way out of a number of situations now, and I can’t imagine he’ll get himself caught in the season’s one remaining episode. On a side note, I enjoyed Avi’s conversations with Connor about Judaism.
