Billions: Season 5, Episode 11 “Victory Smoke” (B-)
I only watched the first three of this show’s five remaining episodes from season five, and now I know that it’s less than three months until season six premieres. The antics are very repetitive, to the point that I, and I have to imagine many viewers, fully saw Rian going to Wendy with a guilty conscience about having seen Taylor’s appointment on their screen as a playbook move, one that only further proved to Taylor that Rian was loyal. Breaking out the cigars was an overconfident move, and this is probably only the third or fourth time that Axe has actually been out of moves, reminiscent of when Chuck actually arrested him years ago. I liked the casting of Janeane Garofalo as Dawn Winslow, though I’m not really sure where her story arc goes from here since she, unlike Axe, won’t have any tricks up her sleeve to get out of this one. Wags went all in with Chelz to apparently just get vengeance on her father, who I honestly only vaguely recognized given the rotating roster of enemies that all the characters have on this show, but then he might have won her over by saying that the “middle part” was real. Prince had his own problematic moment of parenthood where he used his daughters to get Dawn on the hook just enough to have her go with Axe instead, a move that they resented him for greatly and is likely to leave him as alone as Chuck in the end.
