What I’m Watching: Apartment 23

Apartment 23: Season 2, Episode 5 “Whatever It Takes” (B)

Starting this installment out with a shot of June being welcomed in as the newest analyst at a major firm seemed too good to be true, and, as usual, it was. What was fun about this particular case was that it was June rather than Chloe who sabotaged it, mainly because she was so appalled by how little Chloe thought of herself and the lengths she was willing to go just because she felt like it. Playing the real Trey was “Reno 911” alum Thomas Lennon, who I remember best from “I Love You, Man,” and Bruce Davison, who should still be a credited cast member of “Last Resort,” as his father. June really managed to go from nothing to everything within minutes thanks to Chloe’s seducing of Trey, and having that last would have drastically changed this show in a way that I don’t think would have been quite as entertaining. Watching Chloe and June try to confront each other about their opposite problems was pretty amusing. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Robin, who appeared right from out of nowhere to resume her plotline. James chatting with June’s mom to better his “Dancing with the Stars” chances is strange but hardly unexpected, and I do like seeing his continued rivalry with Dean Cain. His mental flipping the bird was funny, mainly because James reacted so largely every time. I hope he’ll get a better partner this time who can help to give him a strong storyline going forward.
